About Us

HiYa! Karate

At HiYa! Karate, we believe in "Training for Life!"

We are a family owned, operated, and integrated Martial Arts Center. The basis of our philosophy is rooted from Tang Soo Do ("Way of the Empty Hand"). Tang Soo Do is a composite style Martial Art that incorporates both hard and soft components of what most people refer to as Tae Kwon Do. The term, Tang Soo Do, is used to denote an older, traditonal form of Korean Martial Art. Tang Soo Do has its origins linked to the ancient Korean Tae Kwon, Chinese Shaolin & Tai Chi and Japanese Shoto Kan Karate styles.

Mind:

Our Principles and Creed are emphasized and throughout training. Students will engage in informative sessions that will educate them on socially challenging topics such as peer pressures.

Physical Techniques:

We teach the foundation upon which tradional karate was formed: stances, blocking, striking, and kicking.

Hyung Sik:

These forms are basic techniques brought together into patterns that teach students strategy, timing and balance while improving their comprehension and memorization skills.

Sparring One Step:

Predetermined self-defense techniques are taught in a controlled enviroment. These serve to develop instinctual reflexive responses to both known and unknown situations.

Free Sparring:

While wearing protective gear, students practice controlled sparring techniques. Safety is a paramount at all times.

Board Breaking:

During special "Breaking Classes" and belt tests we build confidence in our students. Board breaking improves focus and concentration and diminishes psychological barriers that some students may face.

Q&A

Questions & Answers

Q:

How much does it cost?

A:

We always offer a free intro class (private or with a regular class) in order for the student to try it out and see if they would be a good fit here. No strings attached, to see how it is.
Depending on the class, number of training days per week, and age of the student, the price of tuition can vary, which is why it is always easiest to look over what we can offer you or your child when they stop by for a free intro lesson.
We always give out a free uniform for each new student to welcome them in, as well as discounted pricing models for families with more than one student enrolled.
Regardless of the program, each new student is entitled to:

  • a free uniform
  • a free intro
  • Discounted prices for additional family members
Be sure to stop by for your free intro lesson!

Q:

My 4 year old daughter is small for her age and I'm worried about who will be in her class?

A:

Our classes are divided by student's age and experience. HiYa! Karate even offers an exclusive 3-4 year old program to ensure your young child is comfortable in her environment. Whatever your daughter's age, she will always take class with other students her own age range and ability. This insures a quality class that will be fun and educational for all involved.

Q:

I'm concerned my child might get hurt? How safe are the classes at HiYa! Karate?

A:

As with any sports or physical activity, there is always some risk of injury. Here at HiYa! Karate we take the extra step to insure your child's safety. Our instructors routinely train with the safety-first mentality, and our equipment and flooring are designed specifically for the practice of martial arts.

Q:

My son has taken an interest in martial arts, but I'm worried he will use fighting for conflicts? How can you help me?

A:

HiYa! Karate teaches more than just kicking and punching. We stress discipline and choice. Our students learn the true value of avoiding conflict and even the strength to "walk away." It's also important to realize that we teach the tools necessary not only for self-defense but for self-control.

Q:

My son is starting at age 9. How long will it take him to get his Black Belt?

A:

Every student's journey to achieve a black belt in martial arts is unique. On average, our students test for a belt advance every 3-4 months with at least 2 practice per week. Once they reach advance belt ranks of red and brown, our students are encouraged to train as often as possible. the last interval of training before testing for First Dan Black Belt lasts about 6 months. With dedication and hard work, your child could achieve his black belt within 4 years of training. However, we believe the journey to achieve a black belt is more rewarding than the belt status itself.
